Oceana Dix
Voice • Performance • Creative Development
Oceana Dix is a voice educator, performer, drag artist, actor, filmmaker, and founder of Out There Singing.
Holding a Master's degree in Musical Theatre from the University of Surrey (UK), Oceana combines professional performance training, contemporary vocal pedagogy, and years of experience working with singers, speakers, performers, drag artists, and trans voice users.
Their own creative practice moves across disciplines. Oceana has written and performed original work in music, theatre and cabaret; worked in new musical development; and created queer-centred film through Camp on Fire Productions. Their professional work has included a made-for-television musical collaboration with Juno Award winner and Grammy nominee Pablosky Rosales of Cubanismo.
That breadth shapes the way Oceana teaches. Voice can be approached technically and precisely, but it can also be a starting point for performance, identity, experimentation, storytelling, and making new work.
Rather than prescribing an outcome, Oceana begins by listening to what someone is interested in developing and brings the tools that are useful from there.
Out There Singing
Founded in Toronto in 2020, Out There Singing is a trans-operated creative practice centred around voice, expression, and community.
Depending on what you're looking for, your work with OTS might include private voice training, Cabaret Studio, or our Gender-Affirming Voice Program developed in collaboration with Come As You Are and Gender Gear.
You don't need to decide which one before you arrive.
